Workshop on Inter-regulation of Gastrointestinal Transport and Motility at the Lorentz Center, Leiden, NL

From March 24–27, 2025, the international workshop “Inter-regulation of Gut Transport and Motility: The Way Forward” was hosted by the Lorentz Center, organized by Catharina Sophia de Jonge, Clement de Loubens, Claude Loverdo, Sahar El Aidy, and Edoardo Capuano. The event brought together 43 experts from across the globe to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and develop a shared research agenda for the field.
Over four days, participants engaged in scientific talks, poster session, network events and structured discussions, including an Open Space Technology event to collaboratively identify the key challenges and opportunities in the field. Key topics included modelling and quantification of gut motility, interactions between gut function and the microbiome, and clinical and applied perspectives from physiology, immunology, food science, nutrition and pharmaceutics.
The goal of the meeting was not only to share knowledge, but also to connect researchers across disciplines and define future directions in gastrointestinal science. A short communication summarizing the outcomes of the workshop is currently in preparation.
This inspiring week of exchange and collaboration was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Lorentz Center, Groupe Français de Rhéologie, ANR (French National Research Agency), and Fed3G.
