Graphic Abstract: Delayed gastric emptying a predictor of mortality

Gastroparesis is defined as delayed gastric emptying associated with upper gastrointestinal symptoms. There is no systematic study that has addressed the impact of gastroparesis on mortality, based on gastric emptying measurement. Gourcerol et al. assessed whether delayed gastric emptying was predictive of mortality. A delayed gastric emptying breath test, is independently associated with an increased mortality, compared to normal gastric emptying.
