Awards and Recognition at NeuroGASTRO 2025

The European Society of Neurogastroenterology & Motility (ESNM) proudly recognised outstanding scientific achievements during NeuroGASTRO 2025, held this September at Queen Mary University of London.

A total of eight awards were presented to researchers from across Europe and beyond for their innovative and high-impact work in Neurogastroenterology and Motility:

Young Investigator Awards

  • Marte Vandeput (BE) – Study on the role of intestinal muscularis macrophages in diabetic neurodegeneration
  • Roni Levin (IL) - Unraveling G/ Symptoms in Hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: A Functional and Structural Diagnostic Perspective
  • Michele Bosman (NL) - Experience Sampling Method unravels dynamic triggers of abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome - results from a multicenter European study
  • Justine Blin (FR) - Glucocorticoid endogenous production by the enteric nervous system increases neuronal connectivity which is inhibited by inflammation in a GR-dependent manner
  • Sofia Faggin (IT) - Gender-dependent central and gut dysfunction in cuprizone-induced demyelination model

Best Basic Science Abstract Award

  • Tultul Saha (DE) - Complex innervated intestinal organoids from mice and humans: a promising model for studying gastrointestinal diseases linked to neurodegeneration

Best Translational Abstract Award

  • Julien Pujo (FR) - Microbiota-derived lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) and lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) drive visceral hypersensitivity through transient receptor potential canonical 5 and lysophosphatidic acid receptor 1 and 3 pathways

Best Clinical Abstract Award

  • Christopher Andrews (CA) - Liquid Nutrient Drink Testing Induces Gastric Dysrhythmias that Correlate with Dyspeptic Symptoms

These awards highlight the excellence and diversity of research presented at this year’s biennial meeting and reflect ESNM’s continued commitment to supporting young investigators and advancing the science of the gut-brain axis. Congratulations to all awardees for their remarkable contributions to the field!
