Annual meeting: NMD-Portugal

On November 18-19, 2022, the annual meeting of the NMD -Neurogastroenterology and Digestive Motility Nucleus- of the Portuguese Society of Gastroenterology was held. This meeting was addressed to gastroenterology trainees and took place at Portuguese Society of Gastroenterology in Lisbon. The two major topics were: communication in neurogastroenterology and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Communication in neurogastroenterology theme was addressed in a round table, workshop and a conference:Communication between humanism and efficiency; Problematic communication and expectation management. Workshop: Communication problems: identify and correct. Conference: Patient reported outcome measures: the final piece of the puzzle?
On the second day it was about GERD: How to make the most of diagnostic tools in gastroesophageal reflux disease: PPIs or "endoscopy?; Functional studies of the oesophagus: when to request and what to look for?
Current challenges in treating gastroesophageal reflux disease: Atypical symptoms - How to treat difficult patients ? ; Endoscopy in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Challenging clinical cases.
When the fundoplication is an option: How to prepare the patient for the fundoplication?; Surgical treatment: alternative or first option?; Approach to post-fundoplication dysphagia; Recurrence of reflux disease after fundoplication - a dead end?
This meeting, with the participation of twenty-six speakers, was of the utmost importance in training in neurogastroenterology and digestive motility, allowing the presentation and discussion of subjects with great prevalence in daily clinical practice.
