Annual meeting: NMD-Portugal

On November 17th-18th, 2023, the annual meeting of the NMD-Neurogastroenterology and Digestive Motility Nucleus of the Portuguese Society of Gastroenterology took place at the Portuguese Society of Gastroenterology in Lisbon. This event, tailored for gastroenterology trainees, focused on the theme "Disruption of gut-brain interaction: the fundamentals of science."

The conference delved into the development of the gut-brain axis as a determinant of mind-body responses. A symposium covered various therapeutic modalities, including Neuromodulators: central action mechanisms, understanding how to prescribe Central Neuromodulators, Psychogastroenterology in disrupting the brain-intestinal axis, and the present and future of Biotherapeutics in nutrition.

The second day commenced with a conference on "Adverse childhood experiences: determinant of the health-disease binomial," followed by a round table discussing the intersection of experiences in neurogastroenterology among pediatrics, gastroenterology, and psychiatry. The course concluded with a conference previewing Rome V-2026.

This multidisciplinary meeting, featuring experienced speakers in neurogastroenterology, psychiatry, and nutrition, saw active participation across all topics. The discussions were of utmost importance for training in neurogastroenterology and digestive motility, providing valuable insights applicable to daily practice.
