Abstract: AI Chatbot and Managing Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping healthcare by accelerating diagnostics, personalizing treatments, and improving decision-making. From advanced imaging to drug discovery, AI's potential is driving innovations that promise more efficient healthcare and better patient outcomes. Ongoing research continues to unveil the transformative impact of AI in the medical field.

A recent study, led by Henson JB and published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology on August 2, 2023, suggests that an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot could be a game-changer in the management of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The research explores the potential of the AI chatbot to provide personalized information, answer patient queries, and offer real-time guidance on lifestyle adjustments.

GERD affects millions globally, and the conventional management involves lifestyle changes, medications, and sometimes surgery. The study indicates that integrating an AI chatbot into the approach could enhance patient education, engagement, and overall GERD management.

Lead author Henson JB says, "Our findings open exciting possibilities for AI integration in gastroenterology. However, limitations preclude its uptake in routine clinical care currently. This study lays the groundwork for further exploration into the role of AI in healthcare."
